Deanne Cheuk

my presentation artist: Deanne Cheuk.
some of her work:

---> On thursday we watched a doucmentary in my arts management class called 'Rip: A Remix Manifesto.' very interesting, i never really thought about how copyright limited artistic expression, especially for our generation.

"In RiP: A remix manifesto, Web activist and filmmaker Brett Gaylor explores issues of copyright in the information age, mashing up the media landscape of the 20th century and shattering the wall between users and producers. The films central protagonist is Girl Talk, a mash-up musician topping the charts with his sample-based songs. But is Girl Talk a paragon of people power or the Pied Piper of piracy? Creative Commons founder, Lawrence Lessig, Brazils Minister of Culture Gilberto Gil and pop culture critic Cory Doctorow are also along for the ride.A participatory media experiment, from day one, Brett shares his raw footage at opensourcecinema.org, for anyone to remix. This movie-as-mash-up method allows these remixes to become an integral part of the film. With RiP: A remix manifesto, Gaylor and Girl Talk sound an urgent alarm and draw the lines of battle."

my pregnant mind

ive been in school for 3 weeks and my head feels like its going to have a baby!

in other news, i finished project 2, my self portrait. i tried to make it a modern mona lisa so hopefully you all get that effect or see where i was going with it.

im looking at Ingrid Calame's work this week...

remember last year at the IMA? ingrid calame exhibited her work there after she came to Indiana to trace the indianapolis motor speedway. the procedure for making her pieces entail of tracing spills, paint, and scum from the floor and walls and reproducing their outlines in vibrant colors on canvas. its very jackson pollock meets graffiti. i really like the concept of her work though, taking our marks and trash we leave everyday in public and turning their outlines to make some beautiful and never seen before.

*dont litter to make art, make art from the unconventional!

mashin on the motorway

check it out!
http://www.blublu.org/sito/video/muto.htm

This guy is absolutely crazy! It must have taken him forever to complete this video. He had to erase and paint over and over again until he had enough material to make an entire movie. I wonder how many workers he hired and how many hours went into this project.

Speaking of projects, my first project for this class is going pretty smoothly. I'm using a lot of great vintage 50's ads and old japanese photographs to create a bright collage. Its different from a lot of the work I've been seeing in class, so hopefully you all like it...?

alright, have a wonderful weekend!

-im adding comic sans to my dislike list. i HATE comic sans. worst font ever.

thin precise ink pens. duty free shopping. free samples. dressing up.

i dont like...chuck loften of WTHR 13 news...he's a liar. hummers. plastic water bottles. waking up. 'bros.' drugs/alcohol. wearing sweat pants in public. tie-dye. clothing with dragons on it. small spaces. religion. the ugg boot.

influences/inspiration...
FASHION. i watch fall and spring shows religiously. my favorite designers are marc jacobs and diane von furstenberg. they are brilliant, innovative, and on top of their game. MUSIC. songs make ordinary words extraordianry. lyrics can make you smile or cry. i listen to old school hip hop from the 80's, modern trip hop, and indie bands with a lead singer whos usually female. ART. everyone loves van gogh, picasso, and warhol. i love banksy, julie verhoeven, and the work of sailor jerry! theyve got something a little more different, quirky, and thought provoking than the rest. PEOPLE. friends, family, and amelia earhart. she owned the sky and made men feel silly.

Art is the only thing that makes time feel like its going by so fast for me! It's something I love, something I can do, and something I can express without words. What motivates me are my personal expectations, success, s, and the ability to show the world who I am through the arts.
